The Problem

Deputy Yavapai County Attorney Jack Fields, tells the story of low-water crossings, their legal issues and, most importantly the problems created when development results from lot splits instead of going through the subdivision process.  Ultimately, he says, the culprit is unregulated lot splits.  Fields points out that lot splits offer no guarantee of infrastructure, no improvements to access, and as a result are cheaper to buy. When things go bad, or legal issues arise where the crossings are on private land, as in the case at Reay Road, people then turn to the county's taxpayers to bail them out.

A solution

By state statute, the county is forbidden to spend taxpayer money and forbidden to accept any roads or bridges until they are brought up to county engineering standards.  The best way to fix the problem and give residents an all weather-crossing, Fields states, is to create a road improvement district.

Fire burns home in Rimrock Original Culpepper Ranch House

A significant fire burned at a Rimrock home on Culpepper Ranch Road last Wednesday night. The owner reported that he had smelled smoke and went outside and could see the flames. An older couple was able to evacuate the home safety. Montezuma-Rimrock Fire Chief Mike Van Dyke described the fire as "stubborn." The home is an older structure with several additions. Camp Verde, Verde Valley assisted. Sedona Fire Marshal Will Loesch investigated.

A couple had to be rescued after their ATV was swept over 50 yards downstream while trying to cross Beaver Creek near Sedona, Arizona. They clung to a tree for nearly two hours before crews pulled them to safety.
Lower McGuireville resident Kayo Parsons-Korn says she hates the fact she is in a dispute with her neighbors over a dangerous footbridge that is on her property. The neighbors on the far side want it left up as a way across Wet Beaver Creek when it is in flood. She and other property owners on whose land the bridge crosses wants
it down, due to the liability it poses. More...
Neighbors claim no part of the bridge was on Korn’s property...Mad at action and poor advise to new neighbor.
